Working with GPX Files

GPX files are used to share and manage recorded trails in The Mantrailing App. Discover how to export and import these files to collaborate and track your training progress.

What Are GPX Files?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) files store GPS-based data, including recorded trails and waypoints. The Mantrailing App utilizes GPX files to simplify trail sharing between users. Trails can be exported as GPX files and imported by others, allowing runners to share their exact trail with dog handlers. This ensures accurate trail documentation, seamless collaboration, and more effective training within the mantrailing community.

All users can export runner trails, but importing GPX files or exporting dog trails requires the Pro Version.

Exporting GPX Files

All recorded runner and dog trails can be exported as GPX files and shared with other users. To export a trail:

  1. Open the trail you want to export.
  2. Tap the share icon in the top right corner:
    • [ICON:share] on Android
    • [ICON:ios_share] on iOS
  3. When exporting a dog trail, select GPX as the file format.
  4. Share the file using your preferred app or save it for later use.

Importing GPX Files

You can import GPX files received from other users into The Mantrailing App. These files don’t need to be recorded with the app - they can come from other sources as well.

There are two ways to import GPX files:

  • Open from another app:
    1. If you receive a GPX file via email, messenger, or another app, tap on it and select Open with The Mantrailing App.
    2. This will bring up the import screen, allowing you to save the trail within the app.
  • Import from within the app:
    1. Open the app and navigate to [ICON:list] Trails.
    2. Tap [ICON:upload_file] in the top right corner.
    3. Select the GPX file from your device’s storage.
    4. The trail will open in the import window, where you can review and save it.
